2010 CMC Towboat Conference Postponed

The Board of Directors of the Council of Marine Carriers have decided that as a result of the present economic situation, the likelihood of a successful Towboat Industry conference in the spring of 2010, which was planned to be held at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, is rather slim.

Additional pressure will be placed upon our ability to attract sponsors, exhibitors and delegates due to the announcement that the International Tug and Salvage Conference is planned for Vancouver just one week in advance of our own proposed dates.  The ITS is a huge, internationally recognized event, which is well attended and heavily sponsored - partly by our own supporting group.  An attendance choice will have to be made by these same supporters which, in difficult fiscal times, will no doubt be detrimental to both organizations.

The Directors have therefore asked me to advise that the 2010 conference will not take place as planned, but will be moved to the spring of 2011. The Chateau Whistler will remain as our venue.

Accordingly, since we hold our conference every second year, we are forced to likewise postpone the event for Victoria, which was planned at the Empress Hotel, in  2012.   Although we have not yet chosen a new date for that conference it will be around the usual May/June period of 2013.

We hope that in postponing these events it will give all our supporters the opportunity to regain some fiscal balance so that when we resume the conferences they will be more successful than ever.
